What is Herbalism?

extreme close up of adorable Roman Chamomile flowers and leaves

At the very heart of it, I believe herbalism is the deep love, appreciation and down right AWE of the healing potential of the natural world.

Also at its core is a foundation of holistic healing, which means understanding you as a whole person is an essential part. We are all so different and incredibly unique. We don’t just have bodies and symptoms, but minds, emotions, souls and a whole world happening around us! It is all part of our health picture.

Herbalism is a beautiful connection between ourselves and our plant allies. Through the unity of science and tradition, we are able to be really specific about which plants can support you in what ways and not only can it ignite (or foster) a beautiful new relationship between yourself and the world outside but also a beautiful new relationship between yourself and…yourself!

How Can Herbs Help?

  • Plant remedies can support and encourage our bodies when they are struggling (these struggles can include ANYTHING, from a pesky post nasal drip or broken ankle to postpartum depression or a journey through cancer)

  • They also can work upon not just our physical bodies, but our emotional and energetic beings as well

  • Sometimes they are just a reason to find a deep breath and some needed intention in our lives

  • It isn’t quite as simple as “take this herb for that” so having a trained herbalist is important (especially if you are on other medications or supplements)

Do you have more questions about how herbs might be able to help you? AMAZING! I love talking about it :) Feel free to reach out to me for more information.

About Me

Hi I’m Sarah!

That is me over there, in my very first medicine garden. She was small and sweet and my first taste of how healing plants can truly be. My entrance into the world of herbs and healing was not so different from a lot of holistic caregivers: I reached a point in life when there didn’t seem to be any/the right kind of support in the medical system for me. I was really lost in body, mind and spirit.

I began learning at home all those years ago and eventually came to apprentice with a local herbalist in her garden, soaking up her experience and stories. I starting taking more info-heavy courses as well around that time and in 2019 I enrolled in formal education. I think my journey of learning will never stop. Just can’t get enough of these beauties :)

I have also taken some specialty training in spagyric tinctures, addiction/substance use support and a some intensives in supportive cancer care. I look forward to putting all my skills and knowledge forth in service to you, the plants and to what I hope is a growing movement of reconnection to our beautiful natural world.

I had no idea when I started learning, how deep the roots of plant knowledge and uses went. I have been super passionate about sharing what I have learned ever since.

What To Expect

Herbalism is a holistic type of healthcare. This means that in order to support you well, we want to get to the ROOTS of what is going on for you. Every part of you is important. Your physical body, along with your mental, emotional and spiritual well being will guide us to painting the best picture of your health. You are in charge. My job is to listen, ask questions and create a safe space for whatever is brought to the table.

When you see me for the first time (virtually or in person), I’ll invite you to have a cup of tea with me while we begin our exploration. I will ask you about what brought you here and then we will talk about your health history and dive into your story a little deeper. This appointment is usually around 2 hours. After the appointment, I will review everything we spoke about and prepare some herbal recommendations and if appropriate, some diet and lifestyle suggestions. I will check in with you and you can decided how much or how little you would like to move forward with. I will ship, deliver or have your remedies ready for you after our conversation.

We will book a phone or video check in about a week after you start your remedies to make sure they are feeling good for you (this is included in the initial fee). After that, it is ideal that we book follow up appointments so we can adjust the remedies as your situation changes to make sure we are honouring your body/mind/spirit.
